Move over, everybody – there’s a new dessert game in town. Just in time for this scorching hot summer, Mountaineer Ice Cream has opened a storefront in the little shopping mall at 100 South Princess Street. They’re serving up cones, floats and milkshakes along with hot dogs and nachos for a quick bite. They have both soft-serve and hand-dipped ice cream, and the cone prices are very reasonable. I found a small cone to be more than enough for dessert last night. We had the hand-dipped and it was very yummy – they had quite a line when we arrived so it took a little while to get the orders sorted out. We hope those are just growing pains!
They open at 11 and close at 9 most nights, but 10 on Friday and Saturday nights. Please check out the other great places on Princess Street when you walk there – the Blue Moon Cafe, the Devonshire Cafe, The Source store with great earth-friendly and local items, and the Little Pottery House, where you can paint your own ceramics. You can catch a community theater play at the Full Circle Theater Company. We have two great streets for shopping and dining – if you only visit German Street you’ll miss a lot of fun!
